24 September 2023In the tutorial I have been making a Nature inspired long, evolving, cinematic drone in Arturia Pigments 4.0. As the process is quite straightforward I’ll mention some important things to remember here:
Make sure to Select right samples, but don’t worry too much. Once you switch on the Granular option and play with randomization it all starts to sound interesting.
Create Long and Slow LFO’s, and Ideally ones that change their frequency rate slowly. You can do it as I did in the video, Using one LFO to control another’s LFO frequency rate. Then just slap these LFO on some random parameters like:
- FIlter Frequency
- FIlter Resonance
- Start of the granular sample
- Gain of an oscillator
- Tuning (but be very gentle here)
- Whatever basically makes it sound nice – there is no hard rule here
Just be gentle and don’t overdo it.
Other than that, the amp envelope is also crucial to create a Pad/Drone sound. Make sure the attack is slow (3-7 seconds) and also make the release a bit longer (2-5seconds)
At the end, there’s no good drone without a Looooong Lushy Reverb, so stack few of them one after another and you can of course experiment with some distortions or bit-crushers in between.
Don’t forget to EXPERIMENT AND HAVE FUN 🤘😎
